The trio of Dan Zahn, Kate Moretti, and Rusty Winchel offer original songs, traditional material, and classics by songwriters such as Phil Ochs. Their repertoire includes folk, country, blues, jazz, and even some pop. Dan has performed in rock bands and a couple of country swing and jazz groups drawing from each of these genres and forming his own unmistakable style. His voice has been described as “full and melodious” and his guitar and mandolin playing as “fresh, lively and invigorating.” Kate Moretti met Dan when they were running folk festivals in neighboring towns and decided to join forces, creating the Lake County Folk Festival, which they co-directed for the next 13 years in Lake Zurich, IL. Kate is known for her fine musicianship, quick-witted humor, and lovely vocals. Rusty Winchel joins them on vocals and also plays bass. His background is in church choirs, jazz bands, and rock bands. He began collaborating with Dan and Kate when they were recording in his studio in 2010. Dan Zahn has performed on the Festival Main Stage before and Dan and Kate have been featured in a Festival concert, but this is the debut of the trio at the Festival.
